Why see a University Qualified Nutritionist?
University qualified nutritionists have studied for many years at university the science of nutrition, food science, human biology and public health. The training received at university ensures that the nutritional advice you are given is evidence-based and backed by science.
Unfortunately in Australia, there isn’t any legal protection over the term Nutritionist. This means that anyone can call themselves a nutritionist even if they aren’t properly qualified.
Megan has achieved two university degrees, an undergraduate in Science (BSc, Biological Science) and postgraduate in Human Nutrition (GDipHumNutr).
What is the difference between a University Qualified Nutritionist and a Dietitian?
A Nutritionist provides nutritional advice that is evidence based relating to food and health. This can include general health advice, food intolerances and weight loss to name a few. Nutritionists can work in a range of occupations including private practice, public health and research.
A Dietitian provides medical nutritional therapy to patients and their university qualifications allow them to work in hospitals and clinics. Nutritionists cannot work in these areas, however, a dietitian can do the work of a nutritionist, providing general health advice also.
